RE: MEDIA OUTREACH AND RESEARCH (MOAR) WORKING GROUP

Dear OCLA supporter:

Since our establishment for the Self-Represented Litigants (SRLs) working group and the debut of the Ontario Civil Liberties Association last month, several issues and cases have come forward that directly affect the ongoing battle for OCLA’s fundamental fight: completely open freedom of speech in Ontario and Canada.

In order to assist with ongoing information gathering, spreading the word of open and free speech in our society, OCLA is establishing a second working group:  Media Outreach And Research [MOAR] Free Speech Working Group. MOAR Free Speech, ideally, has several proposed streams: 1) Research current and ongoing freedom of speech issues and cases; 2) Media Outreach; 3) Debrief OCLA spokespeople who are engaging with media; 4) Letter writing campaigns to those individuals and organizations who are stifling freedom of expression and speech and 5) Community Education and Public Engagement/Dialogue. Because of the various streams, we have a broad array of roles that one can take on: researcher, educator, writer, coach, etc.

I have been given your contact information as someone who might be interested in participating in a working group, such MOAR Free Speech. At our first meeting, we will review the current freedom of speech issues and cases facing us, collectively, and what OCLA would like to do to raise these issues within our community. There will be a variety of roles and projects that can be taken on – as much or as little as your time will afford.

MEETING DETAILS:

Place: TBA
Room: TBA
Date: Thursday, April 11, 2013
Time:  7:00 to 8:30 pm (ish)

If you are interested and are able to attend, please RSVP with area of the city you will be coming from for the meeting by March 29th, so that I can determine how many people will be there for handouts, the location/size of room required etc. I will relay the confirmed room details for the meeting within a week. Being there and engaging in this working group will be the start of raising awareness of the continued erosion of the freedom of speech in our community!
